Proverbs 27:2

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

This proverb speaks quite well for itself, there is not a whole lot I can say that would make it any more clear. We need to lay our arrogance to the side. Our talents are not from our own merits, they are a gift from God.

Psalm 141:3

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Sometimes our mouths can speak some very damaging things. Our speech can be a very strong weapon; it must be handled accordingly. If we ask God to help us use our words properly, and to His glory, God will bless us.

Psalm 39:1-3

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked are before me. I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. My heart was hot within me, while I was meditating the fire burned: then spoke I with my tongue

Our tongue and our words can do a lot of damage. There is a time we just need to shut up. I have had to learn this in many ways. The key is: are we listening to the Holy Spirit or are we just listening to our own brains? Even worse, are we helping satan with our words? There is a time to speak, and there is a time to let things go and just keep it shut. What is that “still, small voice” saying to you. What is the Holy Spirit saying to me. Lord, help us guard our words and help us be wise in knowing when to speak and when not to. In Jesus’ name I pray.

Proverbs 12:14

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

Our mouth can tell the type of person we are. Our works will come back to us, whether they be good or bad. If we steal, we will be stolen from and if we help those in need, when we are in need, help will be there for us. God made it that way for our good, not bad. If we are wise, we will understand! Praise You God!

Psalm 66:16-20

Come and hear, all you that fear God, and I will declare what he has done for my soul. I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God has heard me; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

All thanks to our marvelous God. He, like David also hears my prayers. His mercy and grace is all around for us to just hold onto. God has done so very, very much for me and I just have to yell it from the housetop. Praise You God! Praise You!

Such wisdom in the words of Proverbs! Have you ever heard another person praising themselves and how it sounds so terrible? Thing is; we all have probably done the same thing. We are all really just full of mud and dirt; it is God through Jesus Christ that cleanses us. Our praise should be of Him, not ourselves. We would be and have nothing if God did not allow or give to us. It’s not our doing, but His.
